Name: Luke Oldfield
Where do you live? Wollongong, NSW
Describe yourself in 5 words. Adventures, fun, caring, motivated and funny
What are you up to right now?
I’m back at work saving for another four-wheel drive adventure in the future after just getting back from a three month trip through the Kimberly and West Coast.
What is your current off-road vehicle including your set-up/living arrangements?
I have a Series 3 GU Patrol that’s Duel Cab chopped and fitted out with an alloy canopy, rooftop tent and a sundeck. It has everything you need to head bush for a few months from a hot shower to a pie oven.
How old were you when you started your 4WD adventures?
I built my first four-wheel drive at 17 and started taking weekend trips with mates; my first big trip was to the Brindabellas back in my GQ Shorty in 2013.
What was your first 4WD/Touring vehicle?
My first four-wheel drive was a 1987 single Cab Hilux me and my dad built. I’ve had many in between and now own the ultimate GU Patrol Duel Cab Super Tourer.
What 4WD Tracks would you recommend in your local area?
My local tracks are Yawal, Appin and Meryla.
Fondest memory exploring tracks?
All the amazing people I met while travelling the West Coast 3 months ago by myself. It was amazing how many people I met and still talk to from my adventure.
Describe your ideal campsite.
Red fire on a river bank with a group of good mates sinking a few cans while the camp oven is cooking a roast all under a beautiful sky of stars
What tracks are on your bucket list?
I’m yet to visit Tassie, the Darwin area and the Simpson Desert but they are all must see places for me. I would also love to revisit a whole heap of the places I’ve already been to.
Name one product you wouldn’t leave home without?
That would have to be my rooftop tent from www.fastfitbullbars.com.au in Sydney. It makes life easy for setting up and packing up when I’m on the move all the time and is always a good sleep.
