My One Box Trip

My ‘One Box’ Trip.

Shortly we take off to begin our twelve month trip travelling around Australia and all Mr Winch is allowing me to pack is ONE box of clothing to wear. That’s right, you read it, pack ONE box of clothing which must include undies, bikinis, winter gear, summer gear and if I can fit it, an LBD for the odd chance we find ourselves going somewhere fancy for a night out. Seriously, this is a running joke with my friends.

“You’re only allowed to take what?” they ask me.

“One box of clothing” I answer with a smile on my face.

“You’re freaking kidding, right? For a whole year?” Them.

“Yes. Pack One box that is full of my clothes that I travel in for one year” Me.

“No chance! No chance I could do it” Most of them answer.

After quite a few road trips with Mr Winch over the years, the one box rule is the norm now. It still makes me laugh, but I don’t baulk at it (much) anymore. In fact, I have become accustomed to packing lightly and living within my ‘clothing’ needs.

When I started packing for this trip, I laid my gear out on our bed to strategically plan the months ahead. The list below is what I came up with.

  1. 1. 4 x Jumpsuits
  2. 2. 1 x Pair of Jeans
  3. 3. 2 x Bikinis
  4. 4. Lululemon Hoodie & Trackies
  5. 5. Bonds Long PJs (usually I sleep in the nudie rudie, but the Desert temps won’t permit that!)
  6. 6. 1 x Sports Bra, 2 x Workout Tops, 1 x Shorts, 2 x Tights
  7. 7. Sarong
  8. 8. Denim shorts
  9. 9. 2 x Pretty Dresses
  10. 10. 2 x Light Shirts
  11. 11. Travel Journal
  12. 12. Birkenstocks & 1 pair of sandals
  13. 13. ‘Traveller’ Akubra, Baseball Cap, Leather Bag (handmade by my granddad), Japanese Fan (to swat away the flies)
  14. 14. 10 x G-Strings

Extras: 1 x Asics sneakers, 1 x Work boots & 1 heavy duty rain jacket. Thankfully these items will be stuffed into other compartments in the car.

I accepted months ago that my darling black leather Coach handbag has no place on this trip so I will be wrapping it back up in the custom Coach cloth bag and storing until we return. It will be like Christmas has come again when we’re united.

Wish me luck!

  1. Katmandu Vest
